Dental and oro-facial infections are an unfortunate result of carious/decayed teeth. These can often result in an infection localized to the area around the tooth, or spread through nearby structures causing more serious health concerns. Fortunately, most localized infections can be handled by treating the offending tooth (root canal or extraction) and draining the infected area, or abscess. This is usually an office-based procedure and is done with the patient asleep. When an infection progresses, it can result in severe swelling, difficult opening the mouth, and potential airway compromise. For these unfortunate situations, Dr. Babston is able to perform hospital-based surgery to appropriately treat these patients in a controlled setting.
